This High Valley Zinfandel captures the wild spirit of our high elevation vineyards. Naturally structured with dark ripe fruit flavors and ample spice, our Zinfandel is bathed in sweet, toasted oak notes that lead to a smooth, mellow finish.
About this wine
Vegan
The High Valley Vineyards are the sources of this Zinfandel. The North facing slope allows for longer hangtime while the South facing slope aids in the development of rich flavors. Mostly neutral barrels mellow out tannin, but 20% new French and American oak adds a spiciness and toast that compliments Zin well.
Vintage Notes
The 2020 vintage started out dry and warm. Weeks of 100+ degree weather in early May gave the vines a jump start. The heat held strong until August with a record 116˚ day in July! We started harvest a week earlier than normal, with all white grapes in house and fermenting beautifully by Sept 20th. The temperature cooled down to 80s during the harvest lull and stretched out the hang time on our reds allowing phenolic ripeness of the skins. A welcome cloud cover came on October 10th and allowed the fruit to dehydrate and get more hang time. Tonnages ended up lighter due to low spring rains. We are seeing good color concentration and density in this vintage.
Crafted with grapes sourced from the Round Mtn. vineyard, this wine is brimming with lush apricot, pear and orange blossom aromas. On the palate, crisp grapefruit flavors are enhanced by herbal, citrus notes of lemongrass and a hint of fresh pineapple.
This is a wine of an intense violet color, with sweet notes of caramel, vanilla, white chocolate and coconut, along with good ripe fruit such as plum and blackberry. An elegant wine in the mouth, ready to be enjoyed in good company.
Our High Valley Cabernet Sauvignon starts with aromas of dried cherry, black pepper and cedar. The full-bodied flavors and textured finish are enhanced by notes of cherries, herbs, and toasted oak.
