Buck Shack

Pinot Noir 2022

Think bright cherry across the lips, followed by pie spice and a silky-smooth finish with a touch of oak.

About this wine

  • Vegan
  • Sustainably Farmed
  • Estate Grown

Concentrated cherry, raspberry, and dried herb flavors meld with warm, zesty spices and echoes of French Oak on the palate leading to a long, full finish. This one never goes out of style. The 2020 vintage started out dry and warm. Weeks of 100-plus degree weather in early May gave the vines a good jump start, allowing the harvest to start a week earlier than normal. During the harvest lull, cloud cover gave the fruit more hang time. We are seeing good color density and concentration in this vintage.

This Pinot Noir was harvested when the fruit flavors were abundant, and the acids were in balance with the Brix. Fermented at approximately 75°F, our goal was to preserve the delicate fruit flavors and aromas that are characteristic of Pinot Noir. The resulting wine exhibits more finesse and complexity.

Vintage Notes

2022 was a unique year in the vineyards, every three to four weeks, an unusual weather phenomenon would pass through the warm and temperate spring. The start of summer was marked by a heat wave that reached up to 110˚ f in lake county, a little lower than our southern neighbors. We've never experienced such heat, followed by heavy rain, in the middle of summer. The two inches we got put off picking until the soil dried up and the brix level rose. This harvest was like playing a game of weather dodgeball.
